7 weeks 5 days

So I was surprisingly calm about going to this appointment, thank you, God! So we got there and played games on a phone until we were called back.

I was pretty impatient and once the doctor started looking around I said “Is there something there?” She replied with yes and that she knows what she’s doing…duh….I just can’t tell from a gray blob to a darker gray blob.

She showed us Baby H and the yolk sac. She then proceeded to tell us there a little bit of blood behind the placenta? She told us this was really common and that it could just be that randomness or an undeveloped twin…say what…lol

She then measure Baby H and told us that we are 7 weeks and 4 days along. Not 8 Weeks and 6 days like we thought. Whoops. Due date has been pushed back to March 14th!

We then got to see the fast flicker of the heartbeat :) I melted…and I couldn’t see Matt but I am pretty sure he melted too :) It was like a bright light flickering. The heartbeat is at 156bpm right now which is great!

We go back for our next ultrasound August 31st at 8:35am! Hopefully we will then be able to tell the world :D

the perfect circle in this picture is the yolk sac

Five guys take same photo for 30 years

By Kelly Andersen, Special to CNN
updated 10:02 AM EDT, Thu July 26, 2012

When five teenagers sat down and posed for a picture at Copco Lake in 1982, they didn't plan on making it a tradition. But that's what it became.
Every five years for the past three decades, John Wardlaw, John Dickson, Mark Rumer, Dallas Burney and John Molony have been meeting at the California lake and taking the same photo.
The first photograph of the high school friends was just happenstance. Wardlaw, known as Wedge in the group, had a family cabin at the lake where the friends gathered in July 1982.
While hanging out on the deck of the cabin, Dickson, or J.D., set his 35-millimeter camera on self-timer to take a group photo.
"For some reason, we all chose to have dark and mysterious expressions on our faces," said Wardlaw. "I'm sure we all thought we were being really cool."
Though they tried a couple of poses, the one that would eventually win as the official vacation photo depicts the five teens, three of them shirtless, with shaggy hair typical of the time. They were about 19 years old.
Molony, known in the group as Belves, is pictured holding a Folgers Instant Coffee jar, which contained a cockroach the guys had decided to keep as a pet. They fed their new friend with a piece of butterscotch candy and kept it company with a photograph of Robert Young.
"Priorities were so different back then. All I was really thinking about was summer and girls," said Wardlaw.
As the men went into their college years, they continued to return to the lake every summer. They spent their time fishing and reading and playing roles in homemade movies shot by Wardlaw, who is now a filmmaker.
"We're all very creative people, so we would take all of our creative energy and focus it into a certain direction," said Molony. "It wasn't, 'Let's all get together and get drunk.' It was, 'Let's get together and see who can make the funniest joke or pull off the sneakiest prank.'"
The men never drank on the trip. It has always been good, clean fun.
At least fairly clean: One year Wardlaw turned on the water to take a shower, and it was running brown. He removed the shower head to find a beef bullion cube.
"When I went back to the living room, the guys were all chuckling and I said something like 'beefy goodness' and they all exploded with laughter," he said.
But it wasn't until five summers later when Wardlaw, a photography enthusiast, decided it would be fun to recreate the photograph they'd taken in '82.
In 1987, the now college-educated men sat in the same position on the same bench, again with a self-timed camera. The jar, a different one this time, contained no cockroach, and the hat held by Wardlaw was different as well. The expressions however, were unchanged.
"I think I had a feeling this might become some cool tradition, but I had no idea we would still be doing it for 30 years," said Wardlaw.
In 1997, 15 years after the original photo, the men, then in their mid-30s, decided to solidify the photo as a tradition they would continue every five years for the rest of their lives.
As the ritual became more concrete and when digital cameras were introduced, the group became more picky over the details of the photo, going as far as to wear the same clothes, and designate an official jar and hat as props. Hairstyles have changed over the years and with the march of time they abandoned the bare-chested motif.
"Watch us lose hair and gain forehead, gain and lose and gain and lose weight," Dickson posted on a website he maintains devoted to the tradition. "There are reasons we all decided it was better to take the photo with our shirts on."
Now, the friends also take the time to film the ordeal, and interview each other concerning the last five years' events.
The guys all agree that this trip has been the glue that has allowed them to maintain their friendships.
"It's kind of an organic relationship that's evolved not just from being high school buddies but from having common passions for life," Molony said..
Over the years, the friends have played parts in the milestones of each others' lives, including being in each others' weddings.
"I look at the photos and think of the relationships I went through," said Dickson. "Wedding rings come and go if you look closely."
Dickson, who now works as a restaurant columnist, got married in mid-July and had some of the guys in his wedding. In June, all five friends celebrated Dickson's bachelor party at the 30-year anniversary of their Copco Lake tradition.
Molony, who has since relocated to New Orleans and works for UPS, is married, as is Wardlaw, who made a career of his love for photography and film. Rumer, known as "Kram," now resides in Oregon and has retired after owning his own electronics company. None of the men have children yet.
"We plan on doing this for the rest of our lives, no matter what," said Dickson. "Up until there's one guy just sitting in the same pose! Even then, maybe someone will take a picture of an empty bench for us."
The seven pictures to date are framed and hang on the wall of the cabin. The men still listen to the same '80s music they were listening to when they were 19 years old.
"I'm not in the same place I thought I'd be, but I'm in the right place," said Dickson. "Without this photo, there's no way we'd be together."

....here are some comments about what the women thought.....I so feel the same way...although I am getting closer with some friends...We should do this Hunter/Steph!

I feel kind of sad that I never had, have or will have a group of friends like these guys do. I am 51 years old, and all my life,  all I received from my girl friends was jealousy, awkwardness, envy, backstabbing etc.... I never enjoyed a healthy relationship with my girlfriends. Now days, I am alone, and I  rather be alone than in such a dysfunctional environment. It took me a long time to realized that my only true and loyal friends were my immediate family, which I am very closed now.
  • dentont
you need to pickup drinking.(just joking) I actually think relationships between women are harder. no hard evidence to back that up. just my personal observation
  • MuddyMama
Sounds like you are reading from my autobiograpghy. Did any of your friends ever try and put a hit out on ya? With friends like those who needs enemies. My family is just as ridiculous. So I don't have friends and I have an adoptive family. It is better that way for me. I am not sad about it as much as completely lost faith in all of humanity.
  • lynchic
I feel you on that.. most of my closest friends either back-stabbed me or simply walked away because they decided to take the word of lies instead of trusting me.. so frustrating.  I have a few friends from high school I still keep in touch with but I live 600 miles from home and others are scattered around the country too.  I have a hard time trusting new friends.
  • ImIrish
As a woman, I know exactly how you feel.  I'm just a few years older.
Women are different, myself included.  We are *itches often, jealousy is a problem, and women don't forget.  If guys have problem with each other, they get it out, and that's it.  Women hang onto stuff forever (again, sadly, I am including myself).
I do have a very dear friend that I grew up with (we were 1 1/2 when we met!), but she lives out-of-state, has a busy life, so we mostly keep in touch by e-mail.  I love her to death, but I wish we were geographically closer.
Sometimes, I feel very alone and sad.  My husband is great, but talking to another woman is different

8 weeks!

your baby's the size of a raspberry!
Now it weighs in (yay!) at about .04 ounces and measures about .63 inches. This week, it's growing about a millimeter each day.

your baby at 8 weeks
  • You can't feel it yet, but it's moving those arms and legs like crazy!
  • It's fingers and toes are now only slightly webbed, and it's tail (yes, it had one) is gone.
  • Fun fact: your baby's taste buds are now forming.

 pregnancy symptoms at 8 weeks

Happy 8 weeks! I finally cracked and got phenergan and zofran yesterday and took phenergan on the way home...let's just say I started falling asleep around 630pm and officially went to bed at 8pm. It knocked me out. Another wonderful thing was that I was able to snack! I really didn't want any dinner but I was able to eat without the nausea! I haven't taken anything today yet but if I feel a twinge of nausea I am taking Zofran...I forgot what it felt like to not have nausea! I feel like I am still doped up on phenergan...oh I love anti nausea pills!

7 weeks 7 days

I woke up this morning and took two ginger capsules right off the bat. I don't know if that was good or not but it did not help. I've got sea bands on that make me feel like I am working out in the 80's

I was able to eat rice krispies treats....I downed two. I will take WHATEVER. No huge cravings although I did want cocktail peanuts at Kroger and bought a massive container. I guess that should hold me over for a while if I can ever eat them.

Baby H: We told your Aunt Carly that we are pregnant with a onesie saying that I love my Aunt. She looked at and asked us what she should do with it. She thought we were waiting until I was done with graduate school to have you. We told her nope and that it wouldn't fit Presley or Gabby! Well it probably would...but it's for you! 7 days until we get to see your precious profile!

7 weeks 4 days

bit of a craving...?

Like I have said, it is extremely difficult for me to eat and the stuff that looks appetizing is full of gluten. I went to Kroger this morning to find donuts that were gluten free and then ran across these yummy things.

I want our kiddo to see the big events that have been going on in the 9 months leading up to its birth. Sadly, this isn't so happy :(

A gunman in a gas mask barged into a crowded Denver-area theater during a midnight showing of the Batman movie on Friday, hurled a gas canister and then opened fire, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 others in one of the deadliest mass shootings in recent U.S. history.

The suspect was taken into custody and identified by federal law enforcement officials as 24-year-old James Holmes. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation.
"Every few seconds it was just: Boom, boom, boom," she said. "He would reload and shoot and anyone who would try to leave would just get killed."

Authorities did not release a motive. The FBI said there was no indication that the shooting is tied to any terrorist groups.

FBI agents and police used a hook and ladder fire truck to reach Holmes' apartment in suburban Denver, Aurora police Chief Dan Oates said. They put a camera at the end of 12-foot pole inside the apartment, and discovered that the unit was booby trapped. Authorities evacuated five buildings as they determine how to disarm flammable and explosive material.

The gunman released a gas that smelled like pepper spray from a green canister with a tag on it, Seeger said.
"I thought it was showmanship. I didn't think it was real," she said.
Seeger said she was in the second row, about four feet from the gunman, when he pointed a gun at her face. At first, "I was just a deer in headlights. I didn't know what to do," she said. Then she ducked to the ground as the gunman shot people seated behind her.
She said she began crawling toward an exit when she saw a girl about 14 years old "lying lifeless on the stairs." She saw a man with a bullet wound in his back and tried to check his pulse, but "I had to go. I was going to get shot."

PRAYING FOR THOSE IN AURORA, COLORADO RIGHT NOW. MY YIAYIA USED TO LIVE IN AURORA AND WE USED TO VISIT ALL THE TIME :(

On a happy note, we are breaking the news to my sister tonight! woo!

7 weeks 2 days

I am posting randomly each day because once baby H is born I want to turn this blog into a book so he/she can read this later down the road and see what happened during this time. :)

Are vivid dreams a symptom of pregnancy? If so, I had some last night! They involved mini Triceratops bugs and massive black widows trying to get Gabby.

Unfortunately they weren't this cute looking and they had two rows of really sharp teeth! The black widow was MASSIVE and it got my sister, Carly. She had stitches where her bite was. She was arguing with me that the spider bites...but I was telling her that it was the legs that hurt you...I insisted...lol... probably to make myself feel better because Gabby stepped on the black widows head.

Baby H: I craved Taco Bell soft tacos yesterday. I could not eat them...and found out that the beef is not gluten free...surprised? Not really since people claim their beef is not real to begin with. Nachos it was. I still want a donut.

I had no night sickness, it has jumped to the morning. I miss stuffing my face. Fighting to chew food is no fun.

"There is a greater amount of actual dreaming and dream recall when a woman is pregnant than at any other time during her life," says Patricia Garfield, PhD.
"The changes in hormone levels bring on a feast of dreams in pregnant women," says Garfield, who is author of Creative Dreaming and co-founder of the Association for the Study of Dreams. "In addition, pregnant women need to sleep more, and the more you sleep, the more you dream."
Women also seem to dream more during pregnancy because they are more likely to remember their dreams.
"Twenty to twenty-five percent of your sleep is a dream state, and women who are pregnant are more likely to remember more of that percentage," says Garfield. source

Oh baby H. You have a wonderful daddy! I was not feeling good Monday night but needed to eat SOMETHING...he brought me all this fruit so I could eat something to help you grow :D He is the best! You big brother and sister pugs also cuddled with me all night - they kept you warm :)

7 weeks 1 day!

We hit week 7! yay!!!

The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs
If you could see inside your womb, you'd spot eyelid folds partially covering her peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of its nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin.
Both hemispheres of your baby's brain are growing, and its liver is churning out red blood cells until its bone marrow forms and takes over this role.
The baby also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in your baby's growing intestines is bulging into its umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from its tiny body.

Eating is a major chore and my stomach is always upset. Forced down almost all of my cereal today. The websites also tell me to start taking pictures, so that is what we will do today!

6 weeks 4 days

I have been wanting to get books. I officially want to stockpile on the books for this babe. I will be going to barnes and noble this weekend to buy some. I think this kiddo will have so many pug books it will be ridiculous...but awesome.

Nursing a ridiculous upset stomach right now. Nothing has been appetizing. Cinnamon Chex didn't get finished. I had to force down this probiotic chocolate bar but scarfed down potato chips. Having celiac disease is not fun. I will miss you sour cream and onion chips. Let hope I don't crave you.

It's lunch time and I have no idea what to eat. Options are limited. I am so happy I was diagnosed with this now. I had been having an upset stomach every single day. I finally went to the DR. because I was fed up with it. Had an endoscopy...and blood work done. Blood work came back fine but the endoscopy showed that I had celiac disease. They wanted to run genetic testing but it will have to wait since i am pregnant.

Undiagnosed celiac disease can lead to so many problems for pregnant women. I am so glad we discovered it. Unfortunately we will have to introduce our kiddo to gluten food very very slowly. Some doctors say not to introduce it until they are 1. We will see what everyone says.

I did buy our first baby item. source
My sister does not know that we are pregnant yet and I am going to put it in a forever21 bag and hand it to her. She won't know what hit her!!!

6 weeks 3 days

Oh my gosh. I do not get morning sickness, I get night sickness. Every day after work has not been fun. On Tuesday I had a dizzy spell and got really hot. I had to go lay down for a while and then yesterday...YESTERDAY! I had extreme (TMI) constipation. It was awful...so awful it was giving me intense INTENSE cramps. from 830-11pm I was in severe pain. it FINALLY subsided at 11pm...The cramps were dull. I finally fell asleep a little bit after that and didn't wake up until 430am when the bright lights (lightning) woke me up...Cramps were gone...I got them while driving to work and had more issues at work. It is 6:38am and I hope that is it. SHEESH!

Praying for a healthy baby!! 6 weeks and 3 days!!!
Hopefully people will be able to see this someday soon. I just want to talk and talk and talk about having children but only a select few know. We kept it quiet from our family because we want to surprise them  : ) We have joked to them so many times about bringing a kid into the home when it was a pug : D I really want to thank Hunter, Stephanie, and my coworker, Monica, for being so quiet about this whole situation.
So it is January 17th and so far I am not pregnant – no test today. I am aching for symptoms. The crappy thing is that I get sick to my stomach easily…am tired a lot – lol…so it will be hard to tell. I got excited and got some pregnancy tests a few weeks ago and took one for the hell of it. Obviously negative. I thought I had some implantation bleeding last week so I took one – negative. Every time I think I am pregnant…I am not and it kills my happiness.
CHILL ALEX – it is the first month! OH I need to learn patience.

Day of start of last period: December 19th Today is: January 17thFirst month off of birth control – expecting a late period.
I have been having baby dreams, the other day it was that I was having twins and last night it was that I finally got a + pregnancy test.
I do not know why I am freaking out. I just feel like it is a fairy tale that will never happen…or only the lucky girls get pregnant. To be pregnant and have a baby seems like something I’ve only dreamed of.
Lord gives me patience.
Deuteronomy 31:8
The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Day of start of last period: December 19thToday is: January 18thFirst month off of birth control – expecting a late period

No dreams – thank you! I got cramps last night. So thought I was about to start…so far…have not started.

Day of start of last period: January 21stToday is January 23rdFinished the first month without birth control: 1 month and two days

Friday night I somehow knew I was going to start soon. I had a bad attitude for no reason and I felt like crying. I went to bed at like 830pm. Sure enough the next day I started. I wasn’t as upset as I thought I would be. I was tired of mistaking period symptoms for pregnancy symptoms. Plus we can start from scratch…I can find out when I am ovulating…take my temp and so on.
I took a fertility test this morning and was actually happy to see one line! This actually meant that my levels were normal and I shouldn’t have any fertility problems.

Start of last period: January 21stToday is January 30thDay 10 of cycle2nd month off of birth control

Hello there. Nothing new. Not ovulating. Not pregnant…just livin’ the life. Haha!

Start of last period: January 21stToday is February 8th Day 19 of cycle2nd month off of birth control

Hi there. Nothing new.

Start of last period: January 21stToday is February 10th Day 21 of cycle2nd month off of birth control

I am ovulating!! I have been since the 9th! After seeing so many empty circles it was nice to see a smiling face staring at me! I also went to the lady doctor yesterday for my yearly checkup and she told me to chill out. I will get pregnant when I get pregnant. Lol! She also wanted me to stop the ovulation kits but I am not – only because they are fun. I enjoy seeing if I am ovulating or not. No big deal. I have chilled out a bit. That is all for today. I am so ready to spill the beans about trying to get pregnant. I have only talked to 4 people about it (who knows who Matt has told – lol  - I know)…thanks, Hunter, Stephanie, Monica, and Jessica for keeping a good secret.

Start of last period: January 21stToday is February 22h Day 33 of cycle2nd month off of birth control

No period yet. Not worried about it. Felt like hell on Monday and took a preggo test. Negative. Today is Ash Wednesday….I am not catholic but I was baptized Greek Orthodox…on my way to work I decided to give up something for lent. I gave up the worry of trying to become pregnant. I gave up the ovulation tests and the pregnancy tests (unless I am seriously late). I need to give up and let God. He is the provider. I don’t need to worry about this – it will come when HE is ready.

Start of last period: January 21stToday is February 23h Day 34 of cycle2nd month off of birth control

After I wrote this yesterday I went to the restroom and thought I started…It was so odd because I ALWAYS start in the early morning and I can always tell because of cramps. TMI- it was very light and was just on the toilet paper. End TMI I didn’t get any cramps what so ever. Could this ACTUALLY be implantation bleeding? I don’t know because that was the ONLY occurrence of Aunt Flo. After I spoke to God about giving it up to him he gave it? I thought you’d be able to find out you’re pregnant the second you have implantation bleeding so I bought two tests and they were both negative…(silly me – you don’t test then – still have to wait)…so I am back to chilling out and patiently waiting for God…he is in CONTROL!

Start of last period: February 23rd Today is March 7th  Day 14 of cycle3rd month off of birth control

I definitely started that day…so my cycles have been 33 days apart the past two months. I am regular! I have been pretty calm…yay! Mind has been elsewhere…we bought a house! Woohoo! We close the end of March.

Start of last period: February 23rd Today is March 13th  Day 20 of cycle3rd month off of birth control

Absolutely nothing! Is it bad I want to postpone pregnancy and just go to Orlando Florida and visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter constantly? Nope.  I have chilled out quite a bit. Proud of myself.

Start of last period: March 27th  Today is March 28th  Day 2 of cycle3rd month off of birth control

Started yesterday. No babay. No big deal. I didn’t take one pregnancy test – so proud of myself. Haven’t thought about it much which is good. I kinda don’t care anyone. It’ll come whenever. Been reading a lot, along with having a lot of work and school work…and we are moving! Mind is occupied! Until next time!

Start of last period: March 27th   Today is April 4th   Day 9 of cycle4th month off of birth control

Work and school are kicking my butt. Pretty stressed out but not because of wanting to be pregnant. I have officially chilled out. Too busy reading, working, schooling, and unpacking!

Start of last period: April 30th    Today is May 10th    Day 11 of cycle5th month off of birth control

Whoopsy forgot about this! School officially kicked my butt. It is finally over! So now I can read again! Maybe the no stress will help us get pregnant!! Ahhh!

Start of last period: April 30th    Today is May 29th    Day 30 of cycle5th month off of birth control

Just waiting for the period to start. TMI – thought I had implantation bleeding….probably is just me starting? Who knows…will keep an eye on it. I should be starting this weekend….if it is negative then we are gearing up for June!

Start of last period: May 29th     Today is June 26th     Day 28 of cycle6th month off of birth control

I definitely gave it up to God and asked him what to do. I flat out told him I wanted to be a mommy. Mommy to a human baby that is lol. I am already a mommy to two precious pugs. I just asked him to show me what I need to do. I must say…he must have known what I was thinking about yesterday because I started taking my prenatal vitamins again. I was kind of eating the gummy ones but they had no iron. I was reading the back of the labels yesterday randomly…I have hard vitamins and I started taking them last night. So thanks, God.

Start of last period: May 29th     Today is July 9th    PREGNANT!!!6th month off of birth control

We're pregnant!! We have been waiting for this day for FOREVER! I am usually 31-32 days so when the 33rd day came on Monday I was talking to Monica and told her to not get excited because this has happened a lot these past 7 months of trying.

On the fifth of July I finally was thinking okay I need to take a test. Of course I had no tests so I took an ovulation test. My DR. told me that if you are pregnant the ovulation test will come up positive. I got two lines on the test so I told Matt and went to Kroger.
Unfortunately I didn't have to pee but I made myself and those few drops came out +!! I went down and showed Matt...and was like...well looks like I am....hahaha.
Kinda in shock here...and just praying this goes okay. It is so early. It's hard to believe youre pregnant without an ultrasound or a big tummy.
My first appointment is July 10th with a nurseMy first DR. appointment is July 30th
Please Jesus let everything go okay.

Be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead!
I Peter 1:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6
